Goddesses of Carnaval - De Adriane Galisteu

Every queen must be ready to protect its kingdom. Actress and TV host Adriane Galisteu has been for three consecutive years Drum Queen for Unidos da Tijuca Samba School.   Even with a tight schedule, she never puts aside her commitment with the traditional samba school.   In 2010 Brazil Carnival, Adriane will parade for the 15th time, in Rio de Janeiro.  Yes, you read it correctly: 15 parades in three Samba-Schools: Portela, Unidos da Tijuca, and Academicos da Rocinha.   Adriane states that parading at the Rio´s Sambadrome is one of her true life pleasures and could not imagine herself without this passion.

Unidos da Tijuca muse loves being around the samba school members, and is confident the School will win the Carnival Parade contest.    When asked if she has any kind of “ritual” before parading, Adriane says she doesn´t have any special one.   The beauty though, has her own view of the character in which the Carnaval Drum Queen must present.

Above, a High Definiton video from the great Adriane Galisteu Carnival Queen.

Adriane thinks the Carnival Drum Queens should not only attract media and press attention, but be respectful to the samba school components, be charismatic, love samba and sing the school´s samba  lyrics.   She believes that everyone in Brazil should be a “warrior” when tackling the country´s health and education difficulties.

Adding to the above, a true Drum Queen should be connected with the samba-school community challenges and difficulties too.  In this issue, the Carnival Goddess is also a great example of generosity.   Since her involvement with Carnaval,  she engaged herself in many charity activities.   One example is the donation of thousands of US$ to the Kids Section of Rocinha and the construction of a music school.   She states:  “It´s great to see those community kids really enjoying themselves on the avenue.  Imagine how it would be for them only to watch so closely and not parade.  That would be terrible.”
